This study aims to analyze the implementation of artificial intelligence in higher education in Panama, identifying the challenges and opportunities it presents. The research was carried out in the context of Panamanian universities during the year 2024, using a documentary methodology that included the review of academic literature and educational policy documents. Existing knowledge on the subject was systematized, research gaps were identified, and a theoretical framework was established that allows understanding the current state of artificial intelligence in education. The results indicate that, although there are significant challenges such as the digital divide, lack of teacher training, and resistance to change, there are also opportunities to personalize learning and improve academic management. It is concluded that the effective integration of artificial intelligence in Panamanian educational institutions requires a multidimensional approach that contemplates technological, pedagogical, and sociocultural aspects, as well as the formulation of coherent educational policies that facilitate its adoption.
